Sex Education Opportunities for All Ages

Alaska Republicans Try to Block Abortion Care Providers from Involvement with Sex Ed

The Alaska Senate recently approved a bill that would prohibit school districts from contracting with abortion care providers, such as Planned Parenthood, for their sex education course materials. The bill is apparently Senator Mike Dunleavy’s second attempt to prohibit abortion care providers from teaching sex ed or providing sexual health materials. Support for the bill is clearly divided along party lines.

California Schools Overhaul Their Lesson Plans

This past January, a new law went into effect requiring California schools to teach a sex education program at least once in middle school and once in high school. Previously, districts were required to teach HIV prevention, but now curricula must include information on sexual orientation, gender identity, contraception and more. Schools across the state are overhauling their lesson plans.

Sex Ed for Adults Becomes Ever More Popular

Perhaps addressing a need to fill in the knowledge gaps from earlier, sub-par sex education curricula, sex ed classes for  adults are becoming more and more ubiquitous.
