Sex Educator of the Week: Jen Mainville

What project in sex ed are you currently working on?

I am working to incorporate more multi-session programs for young women into our education efforts at Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes.  We are utilizing programs such as Girls Circle and Girls on the Run, which help strengthen self-confidence and personal awareness, as well as reinforce the ability to make choices that are consistent with values, interests, and talents.
As an undergraduate at UMass – Amherst, Jen Mainville first realized that she wanted to work in the field of sexuality education. She was a trained Educator/Advocate for the Center for Women and Community in Amherst, MA.  Jen has been a member of the Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes education team in Ithaca, NY since 2007 and is currently the Assistant Director of Education. She coordinated the affiliate’s first peer education program, Guerrilla Youth Network Organizers (GYNO), created and manages the Tompkins County LGBTQ Youth Group, and started a monthly Trans* Youth Group. She facilitates an array of educational programs to over 2,000 college, high school, middle school and community individuals annually and has presented at national conferences such as The CFLE’s Sex Ed Conference, Drawing Water from a Deeper Well, and Prideworks.
